Default "Quiet Series 200" sounds like grinding gears in wash cycle
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDB-5
Age: 1 - 4 years

This dishwasher is 2.5 yrs old, and is run usually once a day on the normal cycle, extra rinse, and sanitize. In the past month it has started to make a grinding noise off and on in the initial 10-15 minutes after starting. There is also a sound like a wheel with spokes spinning at some point. There are no other problems, except this horrible noise. Help!

Hello cfabrizio

You have got a pit(seed) or chunk of glass inside your pump housing.
You work from inside the D\W, you will need two Torx screwdrivers #15 and #20

1. Turn off the power to the unit (breaker, fuse)
2. Take out bottom rack
3. Unscrew little cap on top of lower spray arm and remove.
4. Remove 6 torx screws on center cover and gentle lift the front of it to about 45 degrees and pull it to wards you.
5. Remove screw from center impeller and lift it straight up.
6. Remove 4 screws from center of filter housing (Gray 2' round) and gentle lift and pull it free from the tube at the back. Then pull it out flip it over and look for any little bits of glass in the center metal screen. Also look in the bottom and
around the chopper blade.
Do Not Disturb the Orange seal on the drain pump!!!

reassemble and try it.
hope this helps
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for taking your time to help us out. I followed your excellent instructions and found a toothpick, some plastic and a piece of porcelain in the metal screen arourn the chopper blade. I believe it worked.I have only run it on rinse cycle but so far so good. Again thanks for the help, much appreciated.
Best regards,
Chris
