Default Purpose of check ball
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: fdb635rfs4
Age: 5 - 10 years

Been fighting for two weeks trying to get good flow from top arm. Put on new arm from Partselect, checked everything. Can only get good flow if I remove the check ball and leave it out. What is its function and why do I need to pull it?

By the way; I've checked impeller and it looks fine, I see no damage or discernable wear. Seems like its running well right now with no check ball?

New theory; the thing works great without the check ball installed. I'm assuming the check ball is there for the Pot Scrubber mode so all water is forced harder through the bottom spray arm for pots. I also assume this is accomplished by the motor driving the impeller in reverse which forces the check ball to stay against the port to the top arm. So in reality its a timer problem with the contacts always made forcing constant Pot Scrubber reverse impeller action.
Wrong, right, nuts?
