Out of the blue one day we opened the dish washer door and it slammed to the ground (still attached).

My question is, would there be an inexpensive fix such as searching for a hinge or something or do I need to bring in a guy?

The spring for the door has let go.

You will need to purchase a new spring.

Remove the bottom panel of the dishwasher and you will see the spring.

You will need your model number of the dishwasher to order the part.

The model number is found on the tub where the door closes.
