Wink Noisey Dishwasher
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KUDS01IJ
Age: 5 - 10 years

My KitchenAid Dishwasher had a new pump/motor installed last year July 2006. At that time the repair man replaced it because it was not running at all or pumping the water out. Within the year the dishwasher started to make a horrible sound during the wash cycle and a little less during the emptying of the water. I called the repair company and they stated that it sounded like the pump again, but even though I had a one year warranty on the pump they would not honor it. I don't feel like forking over another $315, when it seemed simple to do myself. But what I want to make sure is that it is the pump and not something else. We have been using it nearly every day since it has made the noise back in June 2007. Could there be anything else wrong with it? BTW the parts store says there is a new pump (8535150) for this model since there were problems with the old (8535762). TIA

I have a similar similar symptoms of noise with a KUDS01IJWHO. I replaced the water inlet valve today and that didn't help at all. I'm thinking of replacing the pump/motor assembly but would like to be reasonably sure that it would fix the problem. Does anyone have some thoughts on this.

Denman,

Thank you for the info. I will surely check those things out.go through the flow charts and check those things out before I buy a new pump/motor assy.

I appreciate your fast response.

Just to update, since i didn't get a response in December, I went ahead and had the pump/motor replaced (went with a different company though). while the guy was here doing it, he mentioned the water inlet valve too. So I was very concerned I had the wrong part. But after he put it all back together, it was fine. So it very well may be the pump/motor, of course depending on the exact times the noise is happening. At least according my new repair guy. PS it was not making the sound during water filling.

Misha21,

Thanks for the update. Our noise isn't during the fill process either. It is real noisy during much of the wash cycle. It's a loud buzzing that almost overshadows the normal swishing that you hear during the wash cycle.
