Default Noise from GE Triton during wash -motor ?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: gsd6200j03bb
Age: 1 - 4 years

hi all.
been having a noise during wash cycle. it happens intermitenly. does not happen during drain or fill up.

sounds like 'Grrrr....rrr...r..rrr....rrrrrr...rrrrr'. it comes and goes during wash cycle.

I took out motor yesterday and didn't see anything wrong with impeller or motor. dishwasher is fairly new (3-4 yrs). the bearing in motor seemed fine and made no noises while turning by hand. impeller had no obstruction that I could see.

I'm thinking of taking out the lower washer arm to see if there is anything wrong with that but don't know how to take apart.

any suggestions? Ihate to order motor to find out it is something else??

Did you check to see if the fan on the motor was loose?

It is hard to say what the noise is.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model gsd6200j03bb.

The middle supply tube mounted on the lower side of the upper rack may be vibrating when water pressure is applied during the cleaning cycle. I don't know if this will help "your "noise, but take a couple of tie straps and connect to each side with just enough pressure to keep it from moving. slide top rack in gently and check to make sure it is not off center or pulled up too tight to rack as to make it bind when sliding over the supply nipple. this vibrating noise will transmit all over the machine and sound like its coming apart. Check the water level, on most dishwashers it should fill to just under the heater element. It should not activate the float switch, this is a safety device only.

If the water level is low, it could be the pump sucks air every once in a while and cavitates. This can sound like grinding.

Could try adding a quart or so of hot water to the unit after it fills to confirm this.

If this is the cause there is a good chance that the filter screen on the intake side of the water valve is partially clogged. Take it apart and clean it. Do not run without a filter screen it stops crud from getting into the valve and holding it open which would result is a kitchen flood.
