Hi,

I'm having an intermittent problem with my dishwasher. It will always fill with water.........after that it does one of three things (well, maybe four):
1. works fine
2. makes a humming (buzzing) sound from the bottom of the washer (nothing else happens) I believe this noise is from the motor relay.
3. nothing at all
4. (Kind of) sometimes it will start working, but not finish (ie. not drain when done).

First, I talked to a local repairman. He told me that since it is intermittent, it can not be the motor or the relay. That it had to be the timer. Well.........I ordered the timer from here and then installed it when it came in.

Problem still there.

Thinking that it might be the relay, since this is what is making the noise, but I would like to have a second (and possibly a third and forth) opinion before I spend more money on another part.

If I read you right, It washes, but it is not draining. When it makes the humming noise and does nothing, is there water still in it. I can be reached at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

It always "fills". Sometime it washes (but not much lately). Most of the time when I close the door, the relay buzzes and nothing else (that is after it fills). Every day I will try it again and sometime it works; it will first: drain from the previous fill, and then it will fill again and wash.

So.....either the relay is bad, or as someone else stated that the motor is binding and causing the relay to buzz. I guess my next step will be to take off the motor and see if it is seizing up on me.

Thank you for your reply!

Well...I tried this earlier and the post didn't show up. Will try it again:

The dishwasher will "always" fill. The problem comes when the pump is needed. Most of the time when I close the door, the only thing that happens is that the relay buzzes (every once in a while, the dishwasher works just fine).

Someone else told me that the motor may be binding and causing the relay to buzz. So my next step will be to remove the motor and see if it is actually binding.

Well here how it is. From here I can't tell you 100 % which one it is. The motor or the relay. The relay is varibly inexpensive. Replace it first, and see how it goes. If it works. yea buddy. If not, then you need a motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
