Angry My dishwasher won't drain
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FDB878GCS0
Age: More than 10 years

My daugter broke a glass, and unawares, left many pieces in the dishwasher before starting it. It made alot of noise while running and failed to empty or wash the dishes. I took out the sprayer arm and basket below and found that the impeller was destroyed. I replaced the impeller and removed as much of the debris that I could find. I could not get the clip off the axel coming out of the pump in order to remove the macerator and look below it. Since then it still doesn't drain. We checked the drain hose and blew it out from the point at which it enters the drain under the sink. This erupted water inside the dishwasher giving us an indication that it was clear. I noticed an insert on the other end of the drain hose that is made of black rubber. It looked deformed although I wasn't certain whether it is made that way for a purpose. The end that points in the direction of drainage is closed but opens when you pinch it. I cut off the pinched part and reinserted it and reattached it to the pump. Maybe a bad idea. Never the less, it still doesn't drain. This is where I am stuck, still with no answer. Any ideas?

It is likely the drain impeller that is damaged.

You will have to take the unit a part farther to get to the drain impeller.

The drain impeller is number 12 on the breakdown.

Here is a link to the breakdown of your dishwasher model FDB878GCS0.

Hi Sheila, I am not sure how to get the drain impeller off. At first I thought it was not broken, but now I see that the blades are probably all chewed off. Right now they look to be under an 1/8 long and I would bet they are longer than this. How do I get this imeller off? David

The impeller blades are normally about a half inch long so it does sound like they are chewed off.

The drain impeller is likely seized to the shaft.

You may have to split it to get it off.

Here is what the impeller should look like.
