Default Motor overheats & stops
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDBD820AWB
Age: 1 - 4 years

The motor burned up in our dishwasher. I replaced the motor, now the dishwasher will run for various periods of time then the motor will shut down. The timer continues to run and the moter is too hot to touch.

Please help
Rick

About how long will the motor run before it shuts down?

It could be that the motor is jamming.

Check that the relay is installed properly. Small side down

It will usually run about 1/2 cycle, if it runs longer it will stop at the final drain.

Nothing is jamming anywhere, I have run the unit without anything in the unit and without spray arm in place, same results.

I am not able to look at it right now but the way it is installed is neutral/white wires are down and toward the front of the unit.

Question: is the relay supposed to stay engaged while the motor is running?
currently it is not.

at motor start: readings taken from neutral/white wires on relay
yellow wire goes high(120v)
pink wire goes high-low-high
yellow wire goes low

Thanks
Rick

The relay is a start relay and should only be engaged until the motor is running.

I would say that there is a internal problem in the motor causing it to over heat.
