Default Maytag timer?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: DWU4912AAB
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a MAYTAG dishwasher that will not complete its cycle. Leaves 2 inches of water in the bottom. This can be removed by beginning a new cycle that begins with a pump out.

So, pump is working and drain is not blocked.

Someone suggested the timer is funky. I know what type it is and can get a new one. But, is it likely to be this and is this easy to replace?

Thx,

Pimbley

Hello, I think that it may be possible that water is siphoning back into your dishwasher through the drain hose. If you have your owners manual available, it should tell you at what heighth (above the floor) the hose must exit the dishwasher compartment through the cabinet wall. If it is too low, gravity will cause water (from your kitchen sink) to collect in the dishwasher. Hope this helps you. zzgairns

zz,

Thx but because the empty completes without a problem on a new cycle I don't think it's this.

If you have the wiring diagram with the cycle flow chart, check to see if the initial drain cycle is longer than the final drain cycle
Your wiring diagram may be taped to the back of the kick plate or on the tub
Does the washer drain completely between wash and rinse cycles
If it does drain completely between cycles then there is a good chance the timer is shot. Usually the end drain cycle is the same as the wash/rinse drain cycle time wise.
If it does not empty completely between wash/rinse cycles then I would look for a mechanical problem. It simply is not pushing enough water perhaps a partial clog may even be in your sink trap

I had a simmilar problem with a Maytag dishwasher. It would seemed to go through the cycles OK but there would be water left in the tub. It was the timer The timer has several "finger" type contacts that are activate by lobes on the timer drum. On mine one of these "fingers" was broken causing the problem. It was simple to replace the timer.
