Maytag Quietseries 200, durability of pump? We have had out Maytag Quietseries 200, Model# MDB6600AWW, for approx 2 years now. Its been great. In fact we use it on the light wash 99% of the time and even fully loaded with filthy dishes it always did very well. Maybe the odd time if we knew it was overloaded it would leave food sediment inside glasses, understandably.
This past springtime we noticed a glass had slightly broken, a chunk missing around the rim. I couldn't find the broken piece.
Then doing the next load theres a grinding noise in the pump. It went away after two loads. I assumed it is built to grind up stuff like that....or is it?
Is the pump all plastic or is there metal parts to grind up glass? Its typical for glass and small stuff like that to end up in there, so I assume that its built for such small pieces.
The only reason I am now concerned is because we notice these days we seem to have more and more glasses from the top rack are coming out with food particles (like peppery size) all inside them! We even lightly load the dishwasher and get half the glasses with this type of residue stuck inside....dirtier than when they went in! In fact we have also made a point to rinse things half decently and still have this issue on and off. We never used to put absolutely filthy dishes in for 2 years anyway, we have always rinsed anything that was obviously bad. But now seems nothing helps.
I look inside the bottom and see a fine screen in the center, everything looks clear and clean.
Would any damage (if it occured from the glass shard) cause less rinsing action during the cycles?
Also one more thing, if its relevant. We switched from Electrosol powder detergent which we've used for many years, to a Kirkland brand from Costco that a friend gave to us. I can't say for sure if that was around the same time we start to see food sediment in the glasses....but would th brand of detergent even make any difference? Do the detergents eat the food away? and what we are seeing is poor detergent performance?
Sorry for so many questions, its just got to that point that I need to do something as half the glasses and cereal bowls come out with this peppery sediment on them.
Thanks.
EDIT: A short while after writing this post I found my parts schematic diagram here at this site, I see theres a "Chopper" and the pump is not directly under the center. Would glass ever make it to the pump in a large chunk afetr all? Or would the noise I heard from the glass shard be from the chopper or even I see a wash impeller.
All I was sort of thinking with this is that is it possible we see more food particles due to less pressure during the rinse form something that was worn down by chewing up the glass? Thanks again.
