Default Maytag Quiet Series 100 fills but won't start
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDBF550AWB
Age: 1 - 4 years

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this behavior?

--When the 'Start' button is pushed, the dishwasher will fill and the water will heat. At this point, the panel lights responds to input.

--At 1:25 minutes after the start 'button' is pressed, the water cuts off. The water is heated.

--At this point, a buzzing sound of about 3 to 5 seconds duration is heard. Then comes about 10 to 12 seconds of silence, then the buzzing sound again. The buzzing/silence sequence is heard four times, then the dishwasher shuts down at about 2:40 minutes.

--At 2:40 minutes, the dishwasher shuts down without draining. All lights go off and all activity ceases.

--After the dishwasher is started, if the Start 'button' is pressed again before the dishwasher shuts down, the dishwasher will drain as usual and then shut down.

The large gasket that sealed the motor from the wash compartment developed a small leak. Soapy water seeped into the motor and rust and corrosion caused it to seize up. I applied 90 weight gear oil to the bearings and attached a cordless drill to the armature spindle and spun that sucker until it was spinning as free as the day it came from the factory.

I cleaned the interface between the gasket and the plastic housing of the wash compartment and applied a thin film of grease to the contact portion of the rubber gasket to insure a good seal and put everything back together.

Found the technical manual free at this site:

Service Matters Online

The only problem left is what to charge.
