Default Maytag heater
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: dwu7400aae
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi -

I am not getting any temperature boost during wash or rinse cycles, but the heater element does work in the dry cycle.

The water temp during the wash cycle is the same as the supply temp, less a bit for natural cooling.

What can I do to locate the source of the problem?

Thanks for any assistance.

There may be a problem with the selector switch or the boost thermostat.

You will have to check both with a meter.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model dwu7400aae.

Thanks for the input, Sheila -

I checked the selector switch (it's labeled "temp boost sensor" on the front panel), and it shows zero ohms in one position and infinite ohms in the other, so it should be good, right?

By the way, the lamp on the front panel marked "heating delay" does not light, and it measured infinite ohms across its terminals, if that makes any difference.

Under the tub, I found 2 parts that look like the temp sensor in the diagram you linked.

One looks like it says part number 36TM02J93 and it measured infinite ohms at room temp. It's connected with a gray wire and a brown wire.

The other looks like it says part no 36TM01J93 - it measured about one-half ohm at room temp and its connected to a red wire and a yellow wire.

So, I do not know which sensor (if either) is bad. Can you help?

Can you refer me to an online wiring diagram?

My serial no is A1549872HK, if that helps.

Thanks again.

Mike

Default Test Results - What's next?

Thanks for the leads, Sheila -

I tested the selector switch (labeled "temp boost sensor") and it shows zero ohms in one position and infinite ohms in the other, so it seems okay.

As for the thermostat - my unit seems to have two parts that look like the part shown in your link. Both are held in contact with the bottom of the tub by a clip near the heater element terminal.

One of them appears to bear part no. 36TM02J93 and it's connected to a gray wire and a brown wire. It measured inifnite ohms at room temp.

The other bears number 36TMo1J93, and it's connected to a red wire and a yellow wire. It measured about one-half ohm at room temp.

Can you tell me whether either reading indicates a defective part?

BTW, the red light on the front of the unit, labeled "heating delay" does not light and it measured infinite ohms, so is possibly burned out, unless it's a neon lamp. Does this make a difference?

Is a wiring diagram available on line, because I am really flying bilnd without one.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Here is a link to a manual, you unit is included

The high limit thermostat will be wired in series with the heater element and should be closed at room temp.

The temp control thermostat should be open at room temp, sounds like it is blown or not getting voltage

Your wiring diagram should be in the kick plate of your dishwasher.
