Default Maytag dishwasher pumps slow
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDB6650AWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My Maytag dishwasher doesn't clean like it used to. Hardly any water comes out of the lower spray arm. I removed the arm and used an old toothbrush to clean the surface of the screen, but even with the arm off water will barely pump out. What should I check? I'm an experienced appliance DIYer and can troubleshoot electrical components so please be detailed. Thanks.

Hi,

Remove the spray arm and the top of the pump, #6.

You will see a screen/filter (#8 in the diagram) that needs to be cleaned.

Thanks - I'll do that this evening. Should I have any gaskets/seals handy?

Nope, none needed.

Very simple job. Let us know how it goes.

I removed the spray arm and the top of the pump and saw the inner filter/screen ring was indeed severely clogged. Fifteen minutes later the dishwasher was back together and working like new. Thanks for your help.
