My 1 & 1/2 year old Maytag dishwasher stopped filling with water. I think I've narrowed the problem down to the float or float switch. It seems that when I manually "line up" the float correctly so that it contacts the switch, the dishwasher will fill. However, it never falls back into the correct alignment.

Is there something on these Maytags that keeps the float in place? Could it possibly be broken on my dishwasher?

It does sound like something is out of place or broken.

Check the switch mounting bracket.
