Cool Maytag dishwasher fills, won't wash or drain
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDB7100AWB
Age: 5 - 10 years

I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen and/or fixed this problem. My dishwasher will fill up, but then the motor does not run. The control displays seem OK, but when I start either the drain or a wash cycle, nothing happens. The timer digits don't count down either. I hear some relays on the control board clicking, but nothing else. I checked the motor harness with a VOM, and while the machine is supposed to be running I get no voltages across any terminals. I disconnected the harness and check the motor winding resistances, and get 6.8, 6.5 and 2.4 ohms on the wash, drain and main circuits respectively.
My educated guess at this point is that the motor is fine and the control board is not. (The wiring harness was just replaced as part of the Maytag recall, so I don't suspect that is the problem. I checked and all the connectors are where they are supposed to be, and the unit operated fine for several weeks after the recall repair was done.)
Can anyone confirm my diagnosis before I spend over $100 on a new control board?
Thanks!

There should be a tech sheet in the toe panel of the dishwasher that will help you with your diagnoses.

Thanks, Sheila, I found it. Ran the "Automatic Function Test" and the control panel LEDS and digits display as described. Part way into the automatic sequence, the test stops with Keypad 2 LED flashing -- the tech sheet indicates this is a "motor low current" condition. Seems like it could either be an open in the motor windings (my resistance test did not detect an open) or an open in the wiring harness. I will check the harness again. Given this additional information, could there still be a chance it's the control board? Thanks again for your patience with me.

It is not likely to be the control board.

I have the exact same problem. My dishwasher was part of the Maytag recall. When the new door panel and wiring were installed, the control board was damaged when the new wiring was connected (it's a 2-pin connector that must be plugged in a certain way - it's not marked as to which way it should be connected - you only have a 50/50 shot at getting it right). The repairman tested it, and it would fill, but not wash or drain. He said he would order a new control board (at Maytag's expense) and when I receive it, he would come back to install. Apparently this was very common during these recall-related repairs. I still have not rec'd my new control board after 2 months and have been calling Maytag about the status. Then they called me on Tuesday 6/5 and said that the new control board would not be available any time soon, and they are going to exchange my dishwasher. They are supposed to call me next week to arrange to have a new one installed. Naturally, I was skeptical, so checked a couple other online forums and it appears to be true - at least two other customers have received a new model MDB9601. I called Maytag again, and they said this is being handled on a case-by-case basis and yes, I would be getting a call about a new unit. Don't buy a new control panel (you might not be able to find one, anyway). Contact Maytag at the same number you called about the recall.

Default Same problem

I was wondering if there was a way to get some type of follow-up on this original problem? I have the same type of dishwasher and have experienced the exact same problem as described in the original post in this thread. I did go one step further and did the manual function test. When I did this test, the motor did not run when I manually tested it. I am assuming this means the motor is dead. If anyone has an further input or thoughts on this, I would appreciate hearing them. Thanks!

Default Post recall problems

We had the recall performed, then shortly there after the dishwasher quit working. After several weeks of attempting to get Mr. Appliance, the “authorized repair company”, to come out and look at the dishwasher, according to the same people who did the recall work the new defect is “not related”. We tried dealing with Maytag and Whirlpool and got nothing but a run around. Today we called Jessica Belmontes @ 269-923-5000 in the Maytag Executive Offices, once again we got nothing but a run around, absolutely NO help. My message to anyone who will listen is avoid Whirlpool / Maytag like the plague. They should be forced to take their Maytag repair commercial off the air.
