Default Maytag Dishwasher draining problem
Model Number: MDB4100

So here is the problem. I have a Magtag Dishwasher that is acting very strange. Seems be the timer but before I spend 80 bucks I want to be sure it is the problem.

The dishwasher seems to run fine until it gets to the final drain cycle before it goes into dry. When the entire cycle completes the heater has heated up but there is still dirty water in the bottom. Now is the strange problem. If we try to reset the cycle in the middle of the dry cycle the machine will not restart at all. You have to put it back into the dry cycle and wait for that to complete. Once the dry cycle completes you can then run the dish rinse cycle immediately after the dry on the dial and the water sometimes drains out and sometimes it doesn't. If you put it into the rinse cycle that is prior to the dry cycle the machine does not drain at all.

Any thoughts on what this could be?

Could you please verify your model number as I am getting a generic listing?

The model number is MDB4100AWW (This is what is listed on the tag inside the door).

It sound like the water is not draining in any cycle.

Have you broken any glasses in the past couple of months?

If you have, this could have taken the fins off of the drain impeller. With the fins gone it will not drain. This would have happened over a period of time.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model MDB4100AWW.

Here is a picture of your drain impeller.

I can get the dishwasher to drain in the rinse cycle used to pre-rinse dishes if you are going to let them sit for a while or if they have lots of gunk on them. This is the only cycle that will drain. What we are doing is letting the machine go through all the cycles and after it completes we run the rinse to empty the water out.

With the diswasher draining only on one particular cycle, is this directly related to the timer or is there some other potential problem????

In that case it would be the timer.

Sounds like the timer to me from what you explain. I'd replace it and see but hopefully you can take it back if that isn't the problem? The only other thing that I think it could possibly be would be the drain solenoid but you should be able to see that pretty easy by taking the kick panel off and watching it through the cycles.

I have this problem only on a model WU300. I found it pumped out fine on the "rinse and hold" side of the timer, but then, in trying to repeat the experiment, can't get it to pump out on either side of the timer (total silence now when it hits any of the pump out cycles on the timer). All other functions are fine.
