Question Matag Quiet Series 100 fills, starts, stops
Brand: Maytag
Age: 1 - 4 years

Unit will fill normally
Unit will begin wash cycle for about 2-3 seconds and then stop.
I can push start button to drain unit at that point.
I have tried starting the unit on the Light Wash setting.
The unit will fill then start for about 2-3 sec. stop and start again about 4 times until it stops completelty.

I have had trouble with door latch a couple of months ago. still works but partially broken.

That product has a history of bad door switch's and bad control boards. If the switch's seem to be good, replace the board. If you need me, I can be reached at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Tom

Here is a link, do not know if your dishwasher is covered here but it will give you an overview of how Maytags are put together and some general service help

Since the unit runs in Drain mode I would suspect either the timer, the wash start winding or something jamming the motor from going in the wash direction.

The way the motor works is:
The relay to the wash or drain winding is closed.
The timer determines which winding is in circuit.
The relay coil and the main winding are wired in series
As the motor reaches its operating speed it requires less current.
This lower current is not enough to continue to hold the relay closed, it opens and you continue to run with only the main winding.
