Default Magic Chef glasses "spotty"
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: DU4K
Age: More than 10 years

I am trying to make the best decision, but think I know the answer.

We have a Magic Chef model DU4K, approx 11 years old.
It has been running great since day #1.

Recently, however, the glasses have been coming out with spots on them. The rinse aid container is full, and does not seem to be draining. My wife has been washing the glasses by hand for several weeks not, which makes me wonder why we have a dishwasher for now.

Due to the age, my wife has been looking at some "upper class" dishwashers, with stainless inside and out, quiet doors, etc. Not cheap, but nice.

I don't want to put a whole lot into this one, as it may die at any moment, but based upon the age selection of "more than 10 years" I suspect I have gotten more than average out of this dishwasher, and should smile and replace.

Any ideas on what could be wrong, and if it'w worth replacing?

And any suggestions on what brands to choose, or stay away from?

Thanks,
Sean

If the only problem you are having with the dishwasher is the rinse agent not dispensing then it should not be a costly item to repair or replace.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model DU4K.

Here is a link and picture of the parts of the dispenser.

I would do whatever would make your wife happy (and hopefully what you can afford). If she has her mind set on a new washer, let her have it.

Otherwise, it could maybe be two things: (1) inlet water valve isn't letting in enough water to wash and rinse (might find soap residue left over) or (2) the drain is malfunctioning and not keeping enough water inside to get things clean (you may hear water running in the drain when it shouldn't be or if you open it mid-cycle there won't be enough water in the bottom).

This assumes you've considered the simple things like changing kind or amount of detergent and change in the water temp.

Good luck.
