Default Leaking Drain Valve Seal - GE dishwasher
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD5130D01WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I've got a leaking drain valve seal. The fix I've been told is to replace the seal itself, but in order to do that, I need to remove the push-on nut that holds the shaft connected to the drain valve.

My question is, what is the proper way to remove the push on nut without destroying it or the shaft? One resource on the web says to cut it off. Is this correct?

Thanks

To fix this you should remove dishwasher . Take a look at the drain solenoid area and pry off the tinnerman nut that is on the shaft going into the pump. Remove the white plastic cam and look in the shaft inside the pump. You will see a black o ring inside, this needs to be replaced. GE sells it for $9 Just pry it out and stick the new one in. A piece of vaseline coated string may fix it also, just donno for how long.

Thanks - appreciate the advice - I've already tried to replace this o-ring once and the leak was even worse so I must not have installed it correctly. Is there a certain side of the o-ring that must face in, or does it matter? Does the o-ring need to be pressed in to the opening? This problem has me a bit baffled so if I replace this o-ring again and it still leaks, what would be my next course of action?

Thanks
