Default Leak at bottom of door
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: ??
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a slow leak at the bottom of the door on the right side. Here's my description of the dishwasher and the leak:

the dishwasher has a gasket that seals three sides of the door (left, right, top). That seal is fine. there's another "sweeper" type seal that's attached to the bottom of the inside of the door. it's meant to seal the interface between the inside bottom of the door and the tub. in addition, the tub has a 1/2" lip on the outer side of this seal that is supposed to keep any water that makes it past the seal from splashing out. when the dishwasher is really splashing water around (assume the upper and/or lower arms are spraying), i can see water get past the sweeper and splash up the lip. every now and then, it splashes high enough to get over the lip and a few drops spill down to the floor. it seems that water encroaches on the sweeper/lip in a "surge" or "wave" like fashion. btw, you normally can;t see the sweeper/lip...i had to remove the door panel to expose it.

so it seems to me like a design flaw. but i walso want to check the floater swicth to see if the water level is getting too high. i also suspect the lower spray arm might be cracked and spraying water directly at the door which it's not supposed to do. i did my best to balance it differently but due to the way the washer is attached to the counter, i don't have much flexibility there. i should add that the water escapes the left side of the sweeper/lip and leaks from there. while i see water come up to the center and right side of the lip, it never makes it over the edge and therefore never leaks.

Does anyone have any ideas I haven't thought of? Sorry I don't have the model number right now. I can supply that tonight...

Thanks,
Heath

Check your water level, should be about 1/2 to 1 inch below heater. If ok, you might have a bad door gasket. If smearing vaseline on the gasket fixes it, then this confiorms bad gasket.

Look at the bottom of that gasket below the door. It should have a layer of soft rubber on the bottom, as they get older, the soft rubber has a tendancy to fall off. If that is missing, pick up a new one and that should solve the problem.

How do you replace this bottom seal? Do I have to remove the door to replace it?

Smile found my leak

I had the same problem with my frigidare. I kept replaceing the door gasket but it kept leaking. i finally riped the thing out put it in the garage and tore the door apart. The problem is in the jet dry dispenser. The plunger on mine was open because the thermal switch got rusted and distorted and the plunger stayed open so water just flowed right thru it and down the inside of the door. The galvanized panel inside my door was all rusted and I saw the water tracks coming down the inside of the panel coming from that dispenser. I hope this helps you.

My Frigidaire dishwasher FDB510 also has a leak from bottom of door both sides. I will try replacing both the tub gasket and the bottom door seal. That bottom seal is letting water flood in from the sides and overflow. Parts cost about $20.00
