Default Latch Stuck and door will not open.
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: unknown
Age: 1 - 4 years

We have a Kenmore portable 18" dishwasher with a stainless steel interior for our apartment. We purchased it almost exactly two years ago. Unfortunately the model and serial number are written on the inside of the door which we can't open. I think the model # is 461.17352

Basically the latch is a simple lever that you pull towards you (you hear a click) and then the door opens. When you close the door it simply snaps shut.

We have tried a variety of methods to see if we could lift the door, latch, etc., but so far nothing. Half of our dishes are still trapped inside of it.

Any ideas aside from calling a repair man? (Because it is loaded with dishes we can not bring it into a shop, so we would have to pay the $70CAD to have someone come and even look at it.)

Default

Insert an Allen key between the counter top and the top of the console in the vicinity of the door latch.

Turn the Allen wrench down and press down on the latch strike retainer brackets to release them form the support collar.

The latch strike retainer brackets are snapped into the metal ridge on which the cabinet seal is installed.

I am not sure if this will work on your model but hope it does.
