Dear Sheila,
My Dishwasher is fixed. I hope the following dissertation will make this repair easier for other people with the same problem. It seems that the same handle asssembly parts were used on several Maytag and Jenn Air Dishwashers.
I replaced the handle, the latch assembly, the control panel.
1 The handle with the metal rod is the only handle available. I used a vicegrip to squeeze the latch assembly. The srew on the vicegrip makes it easy to adjust to the pressure needed to push with little pressure on the outer cams into the latch assembly. Please note. The latch assembly has to be in the closed position, meaning th large spring has to be compressed. The middle cams will slip easy in when you change to the open position. I had to replace the control panel because the the plastic bracket to seat the latch assembly was also broken. You have to disconnect the black box (computer) and open it. There's only one srew that holds the closed. You have to remove the flat plastic control strip and replace it with with the new one. The white box has a slide lock, move it up and it will the control strip.
Slide the new stip into the slot and lock. This is a delicate printed circuit. Be careful. If your dishwasher worked correctly before the "operation", but not after, check that strip. It is imperative that you disconnect the the electric power before you start working. It's amazing how easy this is when you know how. Eric |
