Default How to replace impeller???
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KUDI01IL
Age: 1 - 4 years

From reading past posts, I can somewhat come to the conclusion that I need to replace the wash impeller on my dishwasher. Is this a pretty simple fix and how is it done?

Symptoms: going through cycle with no upper or lower arm movement. No cracks or obstructions. Small amount of water coming up through lower arm, but not enough to wash anything. Fills and drains normally. Filters clean. Heat is working. Sounds like it does during normal operation, but doesnt clean the dishes.

Thanks for the help

How high is your water, should be just below heater.

Water is just below heater element...when I open the door, the element is red hot and the sprayer arms have not moved.

Remove ALL the water and expose impeller. Now turn dishwasher on and quikly open door, to your surprise you may see the impeller turning the wrong way!!=new pump motor time.

Why would it be turning the wrong way? I've never had it apart since I bought it and it has been working fine for 3 years...I'm just curious as to how it would all of a sudden turn the wrong way...(not trying to be a smartie pants btw).

I'll try it tomorrow...thanks for the help so far

Only thing that makes sense in your case. The motor could have a disconnected bias winding intended to force rotation one way only. Only other thing could be a dissconected impeller.
