Default Help replacing Kenmore Elite Dishwasher motor assembly
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665-16582200
Age: 5 - 10 years

My motor got a object in it and burned out. The service guy quoted me $400+ to replace. So, I researched and found the part could be bought for half that and DIY'ed. I planed to order the pump/motor assembly (#8268422), as it looked easier than just adding the motor.

Before I order and attempt this I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what type of job this is. I'm pretty handy with tools, but this is first time attacking a dishwasher.

Anyone have advice on how to do this type of replacement, and is it necessary to remove the unit from the counter?

thanks

You can remove the pump assembly from the inside of the dishwasher without removing it from the counter.

Here is the instructions.

Remove the access and toe panels from underneath the dishwasher door by removing the two screws securing it to the dishwasher frame.

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors form the drive motor and pump motor terminals, the soil sensor and the thermistor.

Disconnect the drain hose from the soil sensor on the pump outlet.

Remove the soil sensor, if present.

Remove the pump motor. With one hand press back on the plastic tab the holds the pump motor from rotating. With the other hand rotate the pump motor counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn. The pump motor will now be free of the pump assembly.

Remove the three sump tabs the secure the sump assembly to the dishwasher tub.

From inside the tub lift the front of the sump up approximately 1/2 inch. Push the assembly back and then lift it out.
