Default Heating element has a burn spot
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665.17354301
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dishwasher has formed a burn mark on the heating element. It has partially chipped away at the element as well. I was wondering if it was just a bad element or if I had something else going on like a bad thermosat that was letting the element get too hot? I did do the button test to go into the service mode and the element did get hot. I'm not exactly sure how to get to the other tests because the buttons are not the same as explained in the other posts. I have not pulled the washer out to get a resistance reading ofthe element yet. Do you have any insight into this problem?

The element is most likely the only problem. The bad thing is you have to take the whole disheasher out, and unhook the water, the drain line, and the power, so you can pull is out, and flip it over to replace the element. You can do it, but it will be time consuming. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I'll go ahead and replace the element and see what that gets me.

There's a switch on my dishwasher to turn the element off. It's been that way since we bought it. With hot water the dishes dry by themselves.
I wouldn't fix it.

Woodchuck without the element there is no way your dishes would be fully dry with out the heating element in operation. If so why would they have the element there in the first place. Oh, and if you say to heat the water, That feature has not been around as long as the element. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
