Default Grinding Noise for Whirlpool Dishwasher
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DU1050XTPQ1
Age: 1 - 4 years

This model is three years old, was new when we built house. For the past few days I have been hearing a loud grinding whirring noice after the unit fills when water and periodically through the cycle. Last night, I pulled a couple of pieces of plastic and some hardened soap out. From the manual it looks like I went through one of the slots on the ACCUMULATR. (or at least that is what it looks like here: Whirlpool GU1200XTLS1 Parts List

I carefully used a tiny for to lift these items up and out one of the slots but it appears there is still stuff in there because the washer is making the same noice.

I know this is not my manual but is there a manual available so that my husband can take the accumulatr off and we can get the rest of the "junk" out of there?

I appreciate all your help!

Thank you so much. One last question is he said the picture doesn't show how the lower washarm is connected (he needs to remove it) and he doesn't want to break anything (tried twisting it but it was very tight). Do you know how this part is connected and how we take it apart? Agian, that you for your help!

Move the supply tube for the upper spray arm a 1/4 of a turn and lift it up and off.

Thank you so much for your help. My husband took it apart and looked and there was no clog (we were certain there would be one.) He ran the dishwasher and it fills up with water and then it starts making that noise again. He said it sounds like the pump is starving. He said he's not sure if he took the pump apart that he would be able to tell which part is wrong. In short, the repair people in our area told us that we purchased a cheap dishwasher and could only expect three years out of if (it cost $349) so I guess we will be buying a new one.

But again, I really appreciate all the help!
