Default Grinding noise while draining only.. Answered

Hi!

There is an awful grinding noise only during draining.

But the dishwasher is draining!

Normally you should be checking the drain impeller for this type of symptom as seen elsewhere in the forums.

If the drain impeller is already broken it isn't draining.

I was checking for the broken drain impeller when I found this...

I was removing the upper discharge housing with the spray arm support still attached...

And when I picked it up, it was in 2 pieces.

This is what a broken upper discharge housing looks like from the bottom.

This is the second (disk shaped) piece of the broken upper discharge housing

I didn't know if this was normal. (It wasn't)

The upper discharge housing is one piece.

This is what a brand new normal upper discharge housing looks like from the bottom.

You probably repair a broken upper discharge housing with water and heat resistant epoxy.

A new upper discharge housing is currently about $7.10

It fixed the problem.
