Smile Ge Dishwasher Not Filling With Water
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD1200g
Age: More than 10 years

Hi,

My GE dishwasher is 20 years old and has always worked great, but suddenly yesterday it stopped filling with water. I noticed this after I went to check a load after it went though the whole dishwashing cycle and there was still detergent in the cups. I emptied the dishwasher and washed the dishes by hand and tried to see if anything would happpen today. The same thing, you can hear the dishwasher going through the cycles, but when you open the coor during the wash cycle, there is no water in it, except for a very little bit at the bottom, which might have been when I was trying to wash the detergent out of the machine.

Since my oven/range is having problems too, I would like to try to hold off on buying two appliances at once, so it there anyway this dishwasher can be easily repaired by my husband.

If so, can you tell us how and what parts may be bad?

Thanks for your help.

Check and make sure that the float switch is operating freely.

The float is in the left front corner when you open the door.

Make sure you hear a click when you raise and lower the float.

If the float is working then it is likely a faulty water inlet valve.

It is located behind the bottom panel of the dishwasher on the right hand side.

The water line hooks to it.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model GSD1200g.
