Question GE dishwasher leak underneath
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD2200G02BB
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello,

I have a GE Nautilus dishwasher, model # GSD2200G02BB - it has a leak underneath, near the front left side. What is there? The float mechanism and switch are right there, the fresh water hose enters there, and then there is a metal plate - at the end of the plate is where I see dripping - certainly I see it about 1 minute into the wash cycle - when the thing starts spinning (sorry, don't know what that is called). I also thought once I saw it leak later in the cycle - maybe that was the rinse cycle. It is almost like it might leak at the float and drip down the plate - but that may be wrong. I cannot see what else might be under that plate.

I don't know how to troubleshoot, but I am handy at fixing things when I know the problem. My father-in-law is here and he is a mechanical engineer, so I am hoping he can help me. But we could both use some advice on where to check.

There are no cracks inside. At first I thought the leak was coming out of the bottom of the door, but now I am not sure sure about that. The fresh water hose and dirty water hose have no leaks - they are dry. Thoughts?

Here is a link to your unit which may be helpful
GE GSD2200G02BB Parts List

Normally if your float assembly is leaking it runs down the rod onto the switch

Dry every thing off
Get a small mirror and a flashlight
And try to trace it back

Check the door seal on the lower left corner
Clean the door seal and where it meets the tub
Clean the front of the tub under the door. Washers can get pretty dirty down there and it may be giving the water a pathway out.
Check your corner seals/baffles (#26 in the Body Parts section)

Thanks for the reply! The tough part of tracking the problem is that little metal plate that hides everything. I will check the door in more detail and that link looks GREAT! Thanks again for the help.

One more question, if I may! We looked closely at the door seal. It goes all the way around the top, the sides, and the bottom of the door, but then bottom center - the seal ends about 2-3 inches before meeting at the bottom. That seems really strange to me. Should it be like that, or is something missing??

Thanks again!

Yes it is normal

Some units have a small piece that clips in here but I have looked at two sites and they do not list such a part for your unit so I assume one is not required. In any case this would not cause your current leak.

Any update on this, my Nautilus appears to have a similar leak but mine seems to be when the pump is spraying water in the tub (i assume that is what it is doing)

Sorry, no update. I was unable to find the leak - and when weighing the cost of the repair visit vs the cost of replacement - I am just going to replace it. Too bad, it is only a couple years old. I just cannot find the leak.
