Default GE Dishwasher - Constant Tone from Control Module
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PDW9880J00SS
Age: 1 - 4 years

My GE dishwasher (model # PDW9880J00SS) was emitting a constant loud tone from the control module and all lights on the display/keypad were unlit and buttons unresponsive. Resetting the circuit breaker didn't fix the problem.

I ordered and installed a new control module (part # WD21X10187) and as soon as I connected the power supply, the constant loud tone returned. None of the other connections to the control module were connected at the time! Even after making all other connections, the constant tone remained. Again, resetting the circuit breaker didn't fix the problem.

I'm assuming that the problem is not in the display/keypad since the tone from the control panel is present even when the display/keypad is disconnected. Perhaps I just got a bad replacement control module. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the voltage that you are getting at the control panel?

Here is a link to your dishwasher model PDW9880J00SS.

Default GE Dishwasher Constant Tone from Control Module

Sheila,

I'm getting a 122 volt reading from the leads that plug into the control panel.

OK the voltage is good.

It is unlikely that the second control has the same problem but it is possible.

Is the noise a humming sound?

Check to make sure the sound is not coming from under the dishwasher and transferring up through the cabinet to make it sound like the control.

Default Control Module Beep/Tone

The sound is definately coming from the control module (remeber, the tone comes immediately upon plugging-in the power supply connection and without any other connections being made). In fact, it's coming from the "speaker" thingy that normally emits a beep/tone when you press keypad buttons to change the cycle and to signal the completion of a wash/dry cycle. It's a contant tone, not an itermittant beep. I'm stumped at this point and ready to throw-in the towel, but can't afford to pay a $300 repair bill to get it fixed. Any other ideas anyone?

When the dishwasher first started making the noise was there anything else happening with the dishwasher like not washing or not filling?

I don't know. It was making that noise one day when I returned home after having set it for a delayed start. I'm ready to give up and be resolved to washing dished by hand. I'll never buy another GE.

Try plugging everything back in and see what happens.

See if it will fill with water and wash the dishes.
