I posted about a month ago about how my dishwasher was not draining. So i replaced the drain solenoid on your advice and reading other similar problems. It was a $40 part and fairly easy to switch. It worked, the dishwasher started to drain the water and we did about 8-10 washes. And then the new drain solenoid overheated and melted the plastic around the metal circular part. This happened at the beginning of the wash cycle, not the drain stage. I shut the dishwasher off and checked inside and was very little water. The clotheswashing machine had been running at the same time but with cold water so i don't think it was a pressure problem because dishwasher uses hot water. So was it a faulty part i ordered, lack of water in dishwasher that overheated the solenoid, or did i plug it in upside down? Does this drain solenoid control the entire cycle or just the draining of water?

When you first start your dishwasher there is a short drain just before the dishwasher fills.

It sounds like the solenoid stayed energized for some reason.

The contact in the timer may be welded together.

If the washer was filling at the same time as the dishwasher this would be the cause of the lack of water.

Even though one is using cold and one is using hot.

The dishwasher is what is called time filled. If the dishwasher is suppose to fill in two minutes at 40 psi and and the pressure drops to say 20 psi the dishwasher will only get half the water.

But this did not cause the solenoid to fail.

You will need a meter to check and see if the solenoid is getting power all the time.

Here is the link to your dishwasher model gsd1100g00ww.

Seen this before. You will need to replace the timer or you will be going back and changing the coil again. Get them both changed and you wont have a problem any more.
