Default Free standing dishwasher won't fill
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: fdp635rbs1
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a free standing Frigidaire FDP635RBS1 dishwasher that will be 5 years old in May. It only partially fills. I believe that the problem could either be debris (i.e. a marble or bead inserted into the hose by a child) or the screen on the intake is clogged (we have very hard water). I clean the unit regularly and the float seems to be moving fine.

How do I remove the "portable housing"? I can't figure out how to access anything. It seems to have to have the unit turned upside down to remove the housing, but that just can't be.

Where would the inlet valve be located? The unit sits very close to the ground so I imagine they'd be in the back. The manual is no help, it doesn't cover anything that isn't contained in the tub.

I haven't had any trouble with it that wasn't resolved with a good cleaning, utill now.

It fills with only about a half gallon of water, if I add water manually if runs and cleans just fine. Of course, babysitting the dishwasher to add water at the proper moments defeats the purpose of having the darn thing. I like to start it, and come back to it to find the clean dishes.

Can any one help with:

Trouble shooting the fill problem.

Accessing the inner works.

OK, since I use the dishwasher twice a day for my family of five and babysitting it to add the water at the right moment is getting really old really fast, I'm going to try to open it up while still being ignorant of what I will find inside. I hope that solenoid valve I changed 17 years ago will be enough experience.

Any suggestions about to get the dishwasher out of the portable dishwasher case would be appreciated.

OH great appliance oracle, smile on this poor ignorant soul.

Tubes are clear, intake valve screen is prefectly clean, still only adds about half a gallon of water. It's only 5 years old, and even though I do use it twice a day, that doesn't seem like much of a life span.

I would look closely at the sink hookup and the hoses.
A soft spot or a bubble on the hose could indicate a restriction inside the hose.

Only other thing I can think of is perhaps your fill valve is not opening all the way.

Perhaps turn on the hot and cold, now does it fill?

We hooked up the hose to the sink and ran it while it was disconected from the fill valve and the water flowed through fine and there was no debris in the bucket. I was pretty sure one of the kids had stuck a marble or a small object down the fill hose, unfortunately that was not the case. I've gone over the hoses carefully looking for a kink or crimp or something that would impede the flow, but they're all nice and smooth.

It seems to be the valve, which is clean and stopped working quite suddenly, in the middle of the cycle actually.

Sounds like you may have found the problem

Here is the parts for this unit
Frigidaire FDP635RBS1

The fill valve is #3 in the FRAME section but is actually listed as F3. Price seems pretty reasonable.

Thanks! Maybe in five more years I'll have the self-cleaning kitchen of my dreams.
