Lightbulb D'washer Trips House Earthleakage
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: FDW20
Age: 1 - 4 years

Dishwasher trips out the house earth leakage trip once in main wash cycle. If left for a few hours can be started without trip but does trip eventually on main wash cycle. No sign of overheating in electrical parts or water on connections. Seems to me as if some electical part is breaking down to earth but somehow restting itself!
After fault a reading of just a few hundred K ohms between line on mains plug to earth can be seen on digital meter. Machine is just 3years old. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Default Gfi

Does your resistance change if you measure it after a few hours when the dishwasher will run again.
The few hundred Kohms may not be a concern. You are measuring DC resistance this is different than AC resistance when measuring a motor or a coil/solenoid. The AC itself creates an impedence which acts like a resistance to limit the current flow through the device. So you cannot use current equals voltage divided by resistance to calculate the current draw.
"earth leakage trip" is this an in panel Ground Fault Interruptor (GFI) ?
If so this may be the problem with a false leakage trip.

Default hotpoint fdw20 now o.k.

Thanks for all advice about house rcd tripping when dishwasher is on.
There was a water leak after all.In fact the whole base of the machine was filled with water! I think the problem may have been where the pump connects into a plastic manifold. This was the only suspect area I could find. I changed the o ring and also used sealant as I was not happy with joint method used. I did allow 2 days for drying out. It has now done 3 full washes without fault. When it has done 20 I will say it is definitely fixed!
Thanks
Peter
