Default DW not draining all water from bottom
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD2230Z02WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My dishwasher is leaving probably about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of dirty water sitting in the bottom of the tub. Anyone have any pointers?

Here is the link to your parts breakdown
GE GSD2230Z02WW

Check to make sure your drain is clear especially at sink end
Remove the sump cover and check it for debris also make sure chopper spring does not have string etc wrapped around it.
Check to make sure the wash/drain solenoid activates properly during drain (left hand side of the pump assy), should pull the plunger all the way down.

Also although it does not show it does your unit have a grill at the bottom back of the tub? If yes, there is a valve in there that can cause problems.

It is normal for these units to leave a little water in the bottom of the tub and the sump should be full. If the pump is run while dry damage will occur, Mine leaves about a sixteenth of an inch but it is clean water. After the pump out the water in the drain line runs back into the machine it can sometimes syphon back dirty water. This occurs most often with garbage disposals.

Hopw did you get it to drain?

What are the new syptoms?
Does it fill with water?
Is the wash/drain solenoid plunger up?
Is the pump running?
etc. etc. ??

Well I was browsing the forum and saw a post that said to open the latch and reach under and push down the drain solenoid and then close the latch. I did that and I could hear the water that was in the bottom drain into the sink, opened the door and saw all the water was gone. Now when I turn it on I can hear the motor going but no water inside being sprayed (that and the dishes inside are bone dry).

OK
Make sure the solenoid plunger has returned home (up). This is the wash position.

Does the unit fill with water. Should fill to just under the heater element.

If it is not filling, check to see if you knocked the connector off the fill valve when you reached in to activate the solenoid.

Normally the wash/drain solenoid gets power for about 20 seconds. The plunger is pulled down and this moves the flapper valve into the drain position. The water pressure then keeps it in this position till the water is drained. Once emptied there is no water pressure so the spring on the assembly pulls the plunger up and the flapper valve is back in the wash position.
All it is doing is directing the water to the drain OR to the washer arms.
