Default DW not completely draining after cycle
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DU945PWPQ0
Age: 1 - 4 years

We recently noticed that our dishwasher is not draining all of the water out at the end of the cycle. It usually does drain some of it. I can hear and see water flowing through the air gap and there have been varying amounts of water left behind. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes just a little.

Pressing the drain/cancel button after the cycle successfully empties it although sometimes it takes two times. It also seems to make a high pitched whining noise that I'm not sure I noticed before as it begins to drain.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? It doesn't seem like it could just be a clog since the water *can* get out, but maybe??

Hi,

I would check the drain hose for restrictions or kinks in the hose.

Default Thanks

Hose looks fine as far as I can see. This morning it wasn't relatively clean water in the bottom. There was soap and food everywhere so it seems to be getting worse.

Any help would be much appreciated! I know this was a $300 builder grade machine so I don't think it's worth a service call. We'll try to fix it only if it's a relatively simple DIY.

So I tried to get inside to see if there could be something clogging and made it as far as the impeller cover. From a search, I see that this thing is not going to be easy to get off. I tried both jamming it with a screwdriver and holding on with big pliers, but it won't unscrew. The DW will barely drain at all now....I had to use a shopvac to get the water out.

I'm about to head to Lowes and go shopping unless someone here has something helpful to offer. TIA!
