Cool Dual wax motor conversion kit
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: dwu9200ax
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have just purchased a dual wax motor conversion kit for my maytag dishwasher. Part NO. 12001867. It was to come with installation instructions. The instruction were basicly "take the old part of and put the new part on." The problem I am having is the kit came unassembled and I have no way of knowing how it is to be assembled correctly. There are about six parts that must be assembled. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

The old one is like the new one.

When you take the door apart you will be able to see how it is put together.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model dwu9200aax that will also help.

Sheila; thank you for responding. I have taken the door apart a number of times. The conversion kit is "some what simialar", but it is designed to eliminate one of the wax motors. As I have stated; "there are about six parts that must be assembled." These parts are not like the old unit. There is nothing similar to these parts. I have worked with mechical parts for many years, but I am unable to understand how to configure this. I was disappointed there was no instructions to accomplish this. The reason I ordered this kit, is the similar part I needed isn't offered. (part # 5 on the diagram)

Does the diagram help at all?

If you have a local repair shop in your area they may be able to help you put it together.

There are no repair shops that I am aware of in the area. I am going to use some of the similar parts from the kit with the old part I have and try to make it work. If that doesn't work, I will have to add the detergent manually. Thanks again for your concern.

This can be confusing. It took me a while to figure it out. If you go to the link supplied by Shelia, there is a diagram at the top and some photos of parts from this kit displayed below. Find the photo with all the parts shown separately in the display (I think it is photo 5 as you scroll down the page), I had the roughest time with the little clear plastic piece that is second in from the lower right hand corner. This piece fits on the latch slider (item 7 in diagram) and the trigger for the rinse solution (item 12 in diagram) has a pin that fits inside the hook portion of this piece. This piece as a nob that is hollow that fits on the latch slider. Therefore, you will fit the latch on the detergent side of the face plate (item 5 in the diagram), slide the latch slide in the face plate through where the wax motor will be snapped into place as one of the last things to do. The latch slide will be beneath the latch's (item 6 in diagram) hook for the spring (item 8 in diagram). Now, place our infamous little clear plastic mechanism on the latch slide's nob, which is between the latch's spring hook and the rinse solution tank (item 9 in diagram) (or where it will be eventually).

I found mounting the rinse solution tank (item 9) with its O-ring (item 11 in diagram) first made things easier, but don't forget to put the rinse solution plugger (item 10 in diagram) - the red soft rubber thing that looks like a syringe - in first. The second thing is to put the gray gasket (item 4 in diagram) on the detergent latch and mount the face plate (item 5) to its location making sure that the gasket (item 4) makes a good seal with the plastic door sheet. Check to make sure that the latch is pointing up in the right direction to look the detergent door. Now, go back and deal with the latch slide (item 7) and our infamous piece. At this point, I hooked the spring (item 8) to the latch hook, but not the face plate. The last piece to be snapped in place is the rinse solution trigger (item 12 in diagram). This is tricky, because you have to make sure the fork of the trigger goes under the syringe plunger (item 10), slide the split pin in the vacant hole at the top of the face piece (item 5) and get the small pin (straight down from the split pin) to be on the inside of the hook of our infamous piece. With it all lined up (I used a screw driver to position the infamous little piece correctly), I snapped in the rinse solution trigger (item 12). The last step before testing is to use needlenose pliers to hook the spring (item 8) to the face plate. Now, test the latch slider (item 7) by softly pushing it towards the rinse solution tank (item 9). The latch should move in the correct direction and the rinse solution plunger should go up. If not, see which piece is the obstruction and rebuild. My problem was the non-split pin was not on the inside of the infamous piece's hook.

I hope that this long-winded description will help.
