Drain GATE SHAFT SEAL Brand: General Electric Model Number: GSD3330 Age: 5 - 10 years This is a follow-on problem to a previous thread on the dishwasher not draining. I got that to work but now there is a leak when the Gate Valve closes to drain the tub. the solonoid works when it should but there is a small leak when the Gate is engaged that could be a long term problem. this unit sat non functional for about a month. could the seal have dried out? will the seal likely swell back to limit the leak? how hard is replacing it? I see the GE website has the part for ~$13 plus shipping and this seems high for what amounts to an o-ring. I found a pump, motor housing new on ebay for ~$50 and As the motor may not continue to work for long due to the previous problem, I do not want to just replace the seal then end up replacing the whole unit a week later if the motor finally blows.
This $13 sounds like a small expentature but the single mother, friend of the family that I am tring to help out will not take $$$ and insists on paying. she is trying to limp through to tax refunnd time....I want to see if I can fix it without undue expense. I have some Pool Pump O-Ring Lube that is a marine grease...does anyone think that would work to stop the leak? is the seal easy to remove...I do not want to break the pump housing or shaft taking it apart then have to buy the Motor/pump unit anyway. Sounds crazy and a waste of time but we are trying to help this young lady out. Any comments would be great.
Thanks,
