Default Dishwater motor smoking... fire?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD3800G00BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Greetings All,

My dishwasher (the one listed) went kaput during the wash cycle a day ago. Never had any problems with this dishwasher before hand.

Here's the description of my dishwasher's demise:

I loaded the dishwasher (partial load) and started the normal cycle. The dishwasher operated normally... filling with water and such. After the tub filled with water, and the dishwasher cycled to the "wash mode" the engine froze and started smoking (grinding noise accompanied by a pungent and ever increasing "fire-like" smoke smell).

I hate to think what would have happened if I had left the house during this incident (and the dishwasher motor would have continued smoking/grinding unabated)... my house is precious to me. :/

Do I need a new dishwasher motor?
Is my dishwasher tub filter clogged? (I looked and it looked fine)
Should I just replace it seeing as how it's about 6 years old now?

Your thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated

It sounds like something is caught in the pump not letting the motor turn.

If you stopped it in time all you might have to do is find what has stopped it from turning and remove it and the dishwasher may be fine.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model GSD3800G00BB.
