Dishwasher Won't Start-No Lights

Dishwasher won't start. No lights. Manual says to trip breaker or replace fuse. Breaker tripped, no luck. Any advice?

Often just the door switch or the mechanism that activates it

Thanks for the advice...I'll try to take a look, being that I'm not familiar with appliances I'll see what I can do about looking into the locking mechanism and let you know what I find out. thanks, - mary -

Dishwasher works ok now...left breaker off overnight seems to have resolved the problem. Guess I didn't leave it off long enough yesterday.
