Question Dishwasher stops
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 15899
Age: 5 - 10 years

Kenmore dishwasher model 15899 stops mid cycle at approximately same place each time (77 to 78 minutes). I can open door, pust start and the dishwasher completes the cycle. I have had much trouble with this washer each year since I bought it new. Service technicians have replaced the computer module at least three times, and the thermal fuse about as many. However, I have never seen this problem before. Any idea? I am about ready to give it up and get a different brand.

Sorry cannot find any info on the model number you quoted. Looked at a couple sites.

Do you have the wiring diagram and timing sheet?
If yes look at the timing sheet to see if something switches in or out at about this time.
Have you tried just pushing the door shut without opening it?
Is it a mechanical timer?

OK, I checked and the full model number is 665.15899100. It is called an "Ultra Wash" Kenmore dishwasher. I tried to find a wiring diagram but not sure where to look. Also there is nothing in the user manual that tells me what is going on with the washer at this time. One clue, though, each time I open the door it is full of water (it is hot) and the next thing the washer does is pump out the water once it starts back up. Any help is appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to mention this is an all digital model. Best I can tell there is no mechanical timer.

The most likely place to look for your wiring diagram is behind the kick plate

Anyways Whirlpool makes a lot of the Kenmore Dishwashers so here is a service sheet for a Whirlpool GU2400.

This is why I think it may be a close match to yours
I looked up parts for your unit and found this unit also had a dual digit display,
a seperate drain pump and a thermistor. Although the control panel has a different part number almost all other parts share the same part number.

Still having problem. Two questions, I am trying to understand the diagnose cycle diagram in the link you sent to me. Can you explain a little how to read it? I assume that I will be looking to determine at what point it stops. At that point not sure what to do next. Second could this problem be heat related? For example, I was standing in front of the dishwasher when it stopped this time. I opened the door, lots of steam came out. Then closed door expecting to be able to restart. Nothing. Waited a few seconds, did same, lights came on, then stopped. Waited a little more time, cooled down, seme lights came on then stopped. Finally, after third time the lights came on and stayed on. Dishwasher is now completing its cycle.

I will have to sit down and figure out the timing diagram myself.

Is the unit in SaniRinse. If so I would turn this off and try it.
This unit seems way over designed. I did look up some other Whirlpool units
but could not find a manual thet closely matched your Kenmore.
Will keep looking

OK, next bit of information. I ran a normal wash cycle. No pot scrub, no high temp scrub, no pots and pans, etc. The unit went through sense, wash, drain, fill wash, drain, etc and stopped. I opened and can see the soap was released so I assume it stopped at the wash with soap cycle. I also checked the water level and appears normal. I touched the water and was warm (but not real hot). As did before I had to wait a few seconds of closing and reopening door but the electonics powered back up eventually and when I push start it starts back up and finishes the cycle. Do you think I should just bite the bullet and have Sears come in and service it or should I ditch and just buy a Bosch? This wil lbe about the fifth repair Sears will have have made to this dishwasher in 5 yaears. It time before it has always been either the computer brain, the fuse, or the touch pad in front.

When the unit stops, can you hit cancel and drain, and the product will drain?.If so it is most likely your circuit board. If you have had sears come out five times on that dish washer, DITCH IT!!!!!!!!!! Buy a Bosch, or a Fisher/Paykel Dish Draw. If you have a lowes, you can view them both. The dish draw is really cool. Have you tried the diagnostics
My guess is that it will just cycle through them and will hang if an error occurs

From what I have read this unit's electronics will not reset by unplugging the unit but
Heated Dry, Normal, Heated Dry, Normal pushed in under 5 seconds will reset

I think you problem is in the temperature sensing
Most units have a thermistor ~50 Kohm at 77F and ~12 K at 140F
It appears they monitor this in an overly complex way
You may want to check it for resistance OR get an 8 to 10 Kohm resistor and replace it as a check to see if it is this.

Five calls in five years does seem a bit much
