Default Dishwasher Soap Dispenser Problem
Brand: Sears
Model Number: 665 1574990
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello:

I just bought a new home and it has a Kenmore (Whirlpoo) Ultra Wash III diswasher. Model number 665 1574990. Upon inspection, the main soap container had not cover. I bought the necessary cover and spring (Whirlpool part number 4387043). After much frustration I finally found a picture on the web of how the spring should be placed and it cover works fine and swings open if the latch is manaully pushed away from the cover.

The problem is, that during the wash cycle, the cover never opens. Is there anything simply I can try before calling a repairman?

Is it worth fixing on what may be a older machine? Any and all replies will be MOST appreciated.
Thanks,

Steve / OHIO

There is a linkage inside the door that may have come apart.

Remove the outer door panel and check it.

Here is a link to the parts of your dishwasher model 665 1574990.

Shiela,

I will forever be in your debt! I figured I did not have much to lose by taking the door off and trying to do what what you said. If it did not work I was just going to get a new dishwasher rather than pay (probably $100+) to get a tech out.

IT WORKED. Actually had more trouble getting the black face plate reinstalled.

Thank you so much! I do apreciate it.
