Default Dishwasher pump removal
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665.15955793
Age: 5 - 10 years

The pump seals are shot, leaking water on the motor and tripping a breaker.

I removed 8 screws from the top tower to remove the top assembly.

I also removed the one screw holding the pump impeller, and removed the impeller.

I then removed 4 screws which secured the upper stainer assembly and removed this assembly.

I then saw the mascerator, spring and a gray plastic impeller-like piece ( part number 3P 303509 )that was chewed up badly. The mascerator spring was also twisted. ( It ate a part from the upper rack. )

It looks as if there SHOULD be another shaft seal below the gray impeller-like object.

( Please note: I have tried to remove the pump motor by flipping the 4 plastic fingers, removing the drain tube, and removing the wiring harness. I tapped the motor from the bottom, assuming the motor / pump assembly could be removed from inside the unit. The motor / pump assembly did not budge.)

There is a black, removeable housing below the gray impeller-like object.

Below this housing, there were two small white balls. Are these check balls of some sort?

I know I will need a seal kit, but I do not know how to install a seal below the gray impeller-like object if the installation required removing the motor / pump assembly.

Any hints regarding hidden locking tabs, etc for the motor / pump assembly would be appreciated, especially if the thing has to be removed to replace seals.

I did finally remove the motor. One of the four tabs did not clear the housing. I forced the tab a bit, and tapped the motor with my palm to loosen it.

I installed a seal kit, which included the mascerator, and pump assembly. The "axle" the original pump screwed into had sheared, leaving the previously mentioned gray impeller like object.

I checked the diagram, and there ARE two check balls. I dropped them back in the housing they came from.

I'm running a cycle now, and there are no leaks yet.

Red face pump question

I have the same assembly. I put the pump kit and seal kit together. I put the black top of the impeller back on but when I turn it there is a rough feeling. If I push down on it and turn it is smoother. Did i forget to put a rubber seal between the grey impeller and the motor shaft? I don't want to start it until I am sure it is together right.
