Default Dishwasher not draining properly
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DU890SWLU0
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dishwasher does not drain properly at the end of the washing. I see water at the bottom of the dishwasher. I have tried the following things -

- checked the drain pipe at both ends for debries. Nothing
- Checked the collector and check valve for any issues. They work fine
- Open the drain cover and checked the diaphram and everything looks good there as well.
- I open the pump assembly and took a look at the impeller and I don't see anything obstructing it or any visible damager of any kind.
- I don't know if this model has a drain solenoid!

I am pretty much ripped every part out but I can't seem to figure out the problem.
I repairman came to take a look and said that I need to change the drain pump and left me a $200 estimate. He did not even open the pump assembly so I don't trust him. He did check the timer and said taht it's working fine.

Does anyone has any idea on what else to try? I have had it for just under 3 years and would hate to buy a brand new one!

It does sound like a pump impeller problem.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model DU890SWLU0.

This is what your drain impeller should look like.

Thanks Sheila. Could you please elaborate what can go wrong with the pump impeller? By looking at it, it looked in pretty good shape. I would be honest that I did not remove the pump impeller from the housing - just removed the disk and mount assembly and eyeballed it. BTW, coudl you give me direction to get the impeller out. I am assuming that I need to remove it from where the motor shaft connects to the pump assembly - looks like a clamp.

You will have to remove the pump cover to get at the impeller.
