Default Dishwasher not cleaning well
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: gsd780x
Age: More than 10 years

My GE dishwasher has started to not clean well. I suspect its from clogged filters or jets as I just had to replace the dip tube in my hot water heater. How do I go about cleaning all jets?

There is only one filter in the washer to catch chunks of crud coming in. It is a screen in the inlet side of the water valve. If the unit is not filling to the correct level then it is partially plugged. You may have to take the valve apart to clean it properly. Do not run the unit without a screen.

Another likely part is the flapper valve in the spray arm assembly (Item 557)

These rot out and you loose a lot of spray arm pressure.
Note the upper tower hub nut is reverse thread

While you are at it you may as well remove the cover from the sump and clean out any debris in it.

Hey thanks for the help. After taking the lower and upper spray arm off and the sump screen here is what I found. The bottom spray arm is working just fine as I found out when I turned the unit on with the door rigged open. But the upper arm is not spinning, water comes out of it but each time I open the door to see if it has moved, it hasnt. On the sump, I found a rubber band jammed down there and area around there fairly dirty so I cleaned that out and I'm running a wash cycle. Any thoughts on the upper arm? The water seems to be filling in enough and its getting hot enough.

Thanks for for your help.

Your washer is close to mine mechanically
I fixed the upper arm once, developed a leak up there 2 months later, fixed that and got the upper arm running OK, only lasted a couple months and again when I look, it is always at the same position. But it washes the dishes good so I decided to leave well enough alone.
