Default Dishwasher float is leaking
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665.15972990
Age: 5 - 10 years

My problem is identical to one posted 6-18-07. The dishwasher is leaking through the middle of the standpipe on the float assembly. We first thought it was the flat gasket and replaced it, with no change. We then replaced the float itself, which was damaged when the local repairman broke the little button off the bottom. Still no change. I note that in the prior post the PS Staff tech suggested checking the vent on the opposite side of the dishwasher; that is not plugged. She then suggested checking the timer to determine whether the contacts were OK. Where is the timer on this model? The controls are all electronic. I would check the timer if (a) we have one and (b) you could tell me where it is. Is the water level governed by the timer or by the float/overfill assembly? Anyway, the tech's next step was to check the water pressure. Any other suggestions after that? By the way, we also sprang a leak at the bottom right corner of the door (same side as the float). We are stumped at this point, until we can check the water pressure.

If your timer is electronic you will not have the contact to check that are in a mechanical timer.

Check to see if the float is sticking, sometimes you can get a detergent build up that will cause the float to stick and it will not turn the water off when it should.

If the water level is above the heating element that is a good indication that you are getting to much water.

Here is a link to the parts of your dishwasher model 665.15972990.

I just posted my solution to the problem with another thread of the same title. The problem was a blown-out pump outlet seal. Please see post by Jake Pallagin for details and picture.
