When we close the door everything works fine however when we try to open the handle goes up very easy but doesn't release the latch. It doesn't engage to release lock, Handle gets stuck in the up position and you have to get a screw drive to pull handle down .

Sounds like the door handle assembly is broken but I would inspect the latch plate first. PartSelect has 3 views of this which should help determine if it is OK (see parts breakdown)

Had the same problem and it's fixed very easily. Here's what you do:

1. Turn off your sense of good value.
2. Go to your appliance parts supplier and ask for the latch assembly for your make and model of dishwasher.
3. Hand over about $75 for a bag of 35 cents worth of plastic and cheap screws.
4. Go home and install plastic.
5. Go to expensive fridge that hasn't crapped-out yet.
6. Grab beer.
7. Pull tab.
8. Sip.
9. Cry.
