Default Dishwasher and Disposal issues
Brand: Whirlpool
Age: 1 - 4 years

My apartment has a middle of the road whirlpool dishwasher and insinkerator garbage disposal. The garbage disposal first started acting up a little while ago, and has had trouble draining recently. If I just turn the water on and let it run for a few seconds it fills up, when i flip the disposal switch it drains fast, but then fills up right away again. Then, the other day I did a load of dishes in my dishwasher and when it was done there was still some nasty standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher. I tried looking online for common problems, and couldn't find much on if the problems are related or not. The kicker is I have been selling appliances for over 2 years now as I am going through school, and have never heard this problem before. The appliances are both maybe 2 years old. Any help would be much appreciated.

My guess would be you have a garbage disposal problem
It is restricting the draining of the dishwasher

I would not run the washer too often like this, it is hard on the pump

Maybe this link will help with the disposal
Food waste disposers, jammed unit, on/off switch, lid switch, common problems and what not to put in a disposal

Since you are in an apartment I would call the manager, If you try to fix it and something goes wrong, they might say "You broke it. You pay for it."
