Default Dishwasher - Burning Smell
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FDB989GFC1
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a strange problem - or set of problems.

1. There is standing water at the bottom of my dishwasher.
2. When we close the dishwasher door, I hear a crackling sound from near where it latched. After a few seconds, i get a burning smell emitting from there. If left closed longer, it begins to steam or smoke (not sure which because we turned it off right away and opened the door)

Is this a common problem that I can repair fairly easily - or would I be better off thinking about a replacement?

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

It sound like one of the boards in the door is shorting.

It would be a good idea to shut the power to the dishwasher off.

As for the water in the tub it is likely related to the control board failure.

You will have to determine or have a technician determine which board is faulty.

just pull the panel off after of coures unplugging the machine if it's smoking and burning it's gonna be obvious which board is bad look for a burnt resistor. Most boards have a part number right on them call a parts house and hook it up easy as that.
