Default Dish washer drains inconsistently
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSD5920F00BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

My dishwasher completely drains sometimes, and other time doesn't leaving the bottom full of water.

After checking all the hoses and filters, I first replaced the piston and nut assembly which appeared slightly deteriorated. Then I replaced the whole body valve and check assembly. The drain hose goes up about 12" above where it connects to the garbage disposal unit.

My model does not have a solenoid valve, so I believe there are only three possibilities left.

1. The pump may be sticking, although it appeared to turn freely and the ohms across the motor were in spec.

2. The sequence switch may be faulty, however the unit appears to go through it's cycle.

3. The control assembly may be faulty.

Is there data to suggest any one of these is most likely to be the cause? For example which is ordered the most frequently? It is cheaper to replace the parts then call in a service tech, I just want to start with the most likely suspect, or if be informed if there is a simple way to test these components.

Thanks

You may want to call and check if there is a recall on this unit
General Electric Recalls Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

Here is a link to your parts breakdown
GE GSD5920F00BB

Even if not under a recall I would open up the door and check for wiring problems especially where it bends under the door.

Then as with any intermittent problem the most likely cause is wiring/poor connections. Included here would be timer contacts.

Remove and clean the all plugs/receptacles on the control assy/timer
Some electronics cleaner and a toothbrush can be used to clean them, just make sure they are dry when you reconnect. In a pinch isopropyl alcohol can be used.
