Default Danby countertop diswasher stopped draining
Brand: Other
Model Number: DDW496W
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello: My Danby countertop dishwasher would intermittently not drain after a cycle, but it would drain if I let it rest and cool off (was the water too hot?). Now it won't drain at all. I tried running water backwards through the drain hose and it flows freely. Does anyone know how these are made? If it's just a part that needs replacing I may be able to do that myself.
Thanks!
Patti

It sounds like the motor is over heating but it would not be cause by the water temperature.

You will likely need a new motor.

Sorry I don't have a parts breakdown on your dishwasher.

Thank you for the reply. Isn't there only one motor that does double duty on pumping through the sprayer and pumping out? If so, it pumps the water very strong (like it always has) through the sprayer, so it doesn't seem weak or overheating at all. It's just when the timer knob "clicks" to drain, it just sits there and hums. It did that for a day and a half, then "click" this morning it drained just fine - good and strong. I'm thinking a sticky valve somewhere or else the contacts on the timer that initiate draining have gone dirty?

I am not sure if there is only one motor in this dishwasher because I don't have the parts breakdown.

Have you broken anything in the dishwasher that may be stuck in the pump.

If it does have one motor the motor would reverse to drain and it may be binding.

Have you tried to manually advance the timer to see if it will start to drain.

It will burn out the motor if you let set there and hum.

Yay! I took the top off the unit. You're right, there was a second, small, exposed motor that does the pumping out. It's one of those exposed motors like you see in the center of a cheap fan. But the armature is all corroded and won't rotate (frozen to the magnet stator). I don't know how it could work sometimes and sometimes not. It seems like some seepage out of the pump housing was getting on the stator. Thanks for the suggestions!
